Val d’Isère at Christmas
Val d’Isère wears December well. The old village, with its stone church dating from 1664, is dressed in lights from early December, and the partly pedestrianised centre fills with skiers heading between the shops, bars and restaurants. Because the resort sits at 1,850m with 60% of its pistes above 2,500m, Christmas week snow here is about as dependable as the Alps can offer; the season opens in late November, so the mountain is fully running by the festive week.

Activities vary by resort, but all have festive lights twinkling throughout the period and specially curated Christmas events both before and after the 25th. You can generally expect base snow depths of around 1m and in excess of 1.8m on the upper slopes, with a piste map covering 300km of slopes and a varying difficulty of runs to suit everyone.
