Introducing Chalet Appaloosa

Chalet Appaloosa is a lovely chalet that was a new addition for the 2023/24 season perched above the town, just a short walk up the hill from Rue de la Balme and our other Val d’Isère chalets. It is built into the steep hillside so offers enticing views across the resort.

The chalet is is spread over five floors (there is a lift to all of them except the mezzanine!) with the sleeping accommodation distributed over two. The rooms are generously sized, most with a seating area, ensuite bathroom and a balcony. On the lowest floor, there is even a wellness area that has a large hot-tub and a steam room.

The communal areas are in two parts with dining room situated next to the open-plan kitchen. Up the stairs on the mezzanine and under the eaves, you will find the soft seating where you can relax around the fireplace.

The bus stop is conveniently situated approx. 100m away at the bottom of the hill from where you can take Val d’Isère’s excellent bus service to the slopes and into town. Alternatively, the village centre is a 4 minute walk and it’s a 10 minute walk to the Solaise and Bellevarde lifts.

The Ski Area

Val d’Isère needs little in the way of introduction; it has one of the best snow records in France and an extensive ski area with over 300kms of pistes, served by 96 lifts. It links to neighbouring Tignes to offer some of the highest skiing in Europe.

The Resort

Chalet Appaloosa is situated close to the atmospheric and pretty village centre and ski lifts. The partly pedestrianised resort centre is lively in the evenings offering a huge choice of aprés ski options from a quiet drink to partying until 4am if you’ve the energy!

Discounted ski/board hire

Prebook your ski/board hire through us before you travel and receive up to 25% off. We have partnered with Skiset, the shop that is closest to the central lifts and ski school meeting point, making swaps easier. You will receive a voucher which can be presented at the shop in return for your equipment.

Money off lift passes

Prebook through Ski Vertigo before you go and get preferential rates thanks to our bulk purchasing power.

Flights

Flights are with British Airways on Ski Vertigo’s own flight from London Heathrow to Lyon.

Outbound: BA8606 at 0730 from LHR Terminal 5 with arrival at 1010 into LYS Terminal 1

Inbound: BA8607 at 1100 from LYS Terminal 1 with arrival at 1140 into LHR Terminal 5

Transfers

Coaches will be waiting outside the terminal in Lyon to transfer you directly to Val d’Isere. Usually, you will not have to wait for arrivals from other flights. On the return, you will be transferred directly to Lyon by coach. Transfer time to/from resort is approx. 3 hours under normal conditions.

In Resort

On arrival in resort, all guests may need to disembark at the central bus station where your bags will be transferred by us to your chalet whilst you make your way on foot the short distance to the chalet with our staff. On departure, the same happens in reverse.

My wife and I had our first chalet experience with ski vertigo in Valdisere. We stayed in chalet Ontario and after a huge delay getting to the chalet we were greeted by our two hosts for a late night supper. I can’t speak highly enough of the chalet or the hosts, the food was plentiful and always delicious. Breakfast was a variety of cooked breakfasts, eggs and pastries. Evening meal was always a three course affair and the wine was also delicious with several options available. Coming off the hill to a different cake baked fresh each day was a delight and the hot tub offered welcome relief. The hosts also offered great advice on where to go and what was good to ski each day depending on the conditions. They also helped plan routes for the less confident skiers in the group ensuring they could experience the entire mountain while being limited by their ability. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Wow wow wow! The best experience. Everything about our trip was faultless. I would 100% recommend Ski Vertigo and will most definitely be using their services again. Our chalet hosts, Becky and Steve, were incredible - attentive, friendly and talented. The food was incredible and their service was impeccable. Thank you both for making our trip so special. The chalet we stayed in was perfect, it was a great size for a group of 13 friends, clean and maintained very well.

Chalet Pegase, Val Thorens Jan 2024. Myself and our group of 5 had a blast. Chalet was perfect for us. It’s in an ideal situation at the top of town and close to all amenities. And yes it really is doorstep skiing. Chalet hosts were great and really looked after us. Food was nice and there was no shortage of wine with the meal if you wanted it. Rooms were fine, comfortable with en-suite facilities. I have been to plusher places in my many years of skiing but have had to pay an awful lot more for them. This chalet finds a nice balance of value / quality that really suited ourselves. Well done Ski Vertigo
