Why ski the Les Menuires Valley?

The Les Menuires Valley is one of the three main valleys that makes up the world famous Three Valleys ski area.

More accurately this is the St Martin de Belleville valley, named after the traditional and attractive village that sits below Les Menuires and is the administrative hub for the various resorts above it.

Les Menuires can often get overlooked as a base for a skiing holiday.

In terms of reputation or cachet it can sit in the shadow of Courchevel and Meribel and it doesn’t have Val Thorens’ mantle as “Europe’s Highest Ski Resort”.

There are a lot of factors in this valley’s favour though, which is why we chose it as the location for two of our chalets!

Our Chalets sit in the pretty slope-side hamlet of Reberty 2000.

As the name suggests, Reberty sits at 2,000m a little above the centre of Les Menuires (1,850m) and not far below Val Thorens at 2,300m.

As is the case for most Les Menuires properties, access to the pistes is quick and easy and a multitude of lifts can be reached in a few minutes.

Three Valleys Access

Wider Three Valleys access is probably the first key point in favour of Les Menuires, and particularly our Reberty chalets.

Meribel, Val Thorens, St Martin and the stunning La Masse ski area can all be accessed by taking just one lift.

Courchevel, La Tania or Orelle (which is well worth a visit) require a little more effort, but not a lot.

The Three Valleys’ whopping 650km on linked pistes couldn’t be easier to take advantage of.

Les Menuires Skiing

Les Menuires isn’t just a great base to explore its more famous neighbours. It has some fabulous on and off piste skiing of its own.

La Masse, which can be seen from our chalets, is possibly our favourite place to ski in Europe, let alone the local area.

You’ll find more steep skiing in and around Les Menuires than in most of the Three Valleys sectors, but intermediates and beginners are also well provided-for.

There’s often a choice of routes from the same start and end point allowing skiers of different abilities and confidence to explore the same areas of the mountain.

Food, Drink and Facilities

Food and drink are an important part of most Alpine holidays and Les Menuires doesn’t disappoint in this respect.

Choices on the mountain range from the party atmosphere of La Folie Douce in Val Thorens to traditional mountain shacks down towards St Martin de Belleville.

There really is something for all tastes and budgets.

General resort facilities are also excellent. Les Menuires has two swimming pools, the Roc n Bob sledding track, Speed Mountain Luge, an Ice Rink, dog sledding and many more activities besides.

If you are not exhausted at the end of the skiing day there is plenty left to do!

Value

Many potential visitors can be put off the Three Valleys by the impression created by Courchevel, and Courchevel 1850 in particular.

Home to prestigious boutiques, five star hotels, multi million euro chalets and popular with the rich and famous, Courchevel 1850 is not a run of the mill ski resort.

Les Menuires is quite different though. As a whole it offers excellent value for money when compared to the likes of Courchevel and Meribel.

This isn’t just when it comes to accommodation. Eating out is also far more budget friendly as are simple pleasures like a coffee or apres ski beer on a sunny terrace. Even ski hire and ski school tend to cost less than in the nearby valleys.
