Planning your next ski holiday? Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a first-time visitor to the Alps, staying in ski chalets is one of the most popular and comfortable ways to enjoy your winter break. At Ski Vertigo, we get asked lots of questions about our catered ski chalets in France, so we’ve compiled a list of the most common FAQs to help you prepare for your perfect alpine escape.
Here are the top 10 questions we’re asked about ski chalet holidays , along with everything you need to know when booking your dream ski trip in ski chalets 2026 and beyond.
A ski chalet holiday is a type of winter getaway where you stay in a chalet-style accommodation close to the ski slopes. These chalets are typically Alpine lodges made from wood and stone, offering a cosy, homely atmosphere. Most guests choose catered ski chalets, which include meals, housekeeping, and sometimes even transport to the lifts. Thankfully our chalets are so close to the piste that we don’t need to worry about that last point! If it’s ski in/ ski out you’re looking for then check out our ski chalets in Val Thorens.
A catered ski chalet usually includes:
Daily breakfast (We include a hot option 5 days a week!)
Afternoon tea with cakes (every day!)
A three evening meal with wine (We also offer canapés and aperitifs!)
Housekeeping and chalet host service (Our hosts are on hand 6 days a week!)
At Ski Vertigo, we ensure our guests enjoy hearty, delicious meals and warm hospitality, so all you have to worry about is getting the first lift up the mountain.
France is home to some of the best ski resorts in the world, including the Three Valleys, Tignes-Val d’Isere, and Paradiski. The country offers a fantastic mix of snow reliability, vast terrain, charming villages, and world-class infrastructure, all of which are easily accessed from UK and European airports.
When choosing from our ski chalets in France, consider:
Group size: Chalets vary from intimate 6-person lodges to larger 20+ guest properties.
Ski ability: Some chalets are ski-in/ski-out, while others require a short walk or shuttle.
Resort amenities: Check if the resort suits your après-ski style or family-friendly needs.
Budget: Catered chalets offer different levels of luxury and service to match your price range.
Absolutely! Many of our ski chalets are perfect for families, especially when if you have older children and teenagers. For younger children, check out our sister company Ski Famille, who offer family-sized rooms, early children’s meals, childcare and ski school. Their chalets even come with playrooms, entertainment systems and many have hot-tubs to keep everyone happy after a day on the slopes.
For peak weeks like Christmas, New Year, and February half-term, we recommend booking ski chalets 2026 as early as possible, ideally 9–12 months in advance. If you need to book a little bit closer to the time then you’ll tend to find better availability and value, around January or March, when snow conditions are still excellent, but demand is lower.
Prices of ski chalet holidays vary vastly depending on the resort, time of year, and chalet quality. The packages also vary in price depending on if they include the flights and transfers, which are often the most expensive part of booking the holiday.
UK school holidays can be more expensive than ‘low season’ weeks which are often in January and March. If you can squeeze in a holiday between these peak weeks then you’ll be able to find some fab deals and get away for less! We have ski deals available all throughout the year so if you want to lock in a discount now, then head over to our ski deals page and check them out!
Most of the time, yes, but we can help! At Ski Vertigo, we offer assistance with lift pass bookings, ski hire, and lessons. When you reserve your holiday, you can add them all on, ensuring everything is organised in one hassle free package. When you arrive at the chalet, your lift passes will be hand delivered to you and you’ll be taken by your chalet host round to collect your equipment hire. Our local partners in resort have been working with us for years and are experts and finding the best equipment for each of our guests.
We are also partnered with local ski schools and will book you and your group into appropriate private or group lessons for the week. If you are travelling with children then that’s no bother at all either, we can have them signed up for ski school so you can enjoy some adult ski time, whilst they find their feet on the mountain!
Yes, just let us know your dietary requirements when booking and our reservations team will pass on your details and requirements to the team in resort. Our executive chef has created a diverse and tasty menu that is suitable, or easily adapted, to ensure nobody feels left out at the dinner table. Our chalet hosts and chefs are experienced in preparing vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other special menus. We want everyone to enjoy their stay in our ski chalets without compromise.

Claire Harris2025-04-19 Just returned from the most fabulous week in Tignes staying at Chalet Isabelle. As a family group of 10 this Chalet accommodated us perfectly, with 5 en-suite bedrooms, fantastic dining/lounge area with snug, hot tub room and adjoining ski/boot room, all made for a very comfortable stay. We were very lucky to have the wonderful Joe as our Chalet host. If I could rate higher than 5 stars just for Joe I would! What an amazing young man! 5* service from the minute we arrived - we arrived to the best coffee and walnut cake prepared for us and everything just got better and better as the week went on - hosting skills just excellent and always great company, making our stay extra memorable! The Chalet is in a great location - piste can be accessed opposite and if beginners, for ski school the bus stop just outside, just one stop gets you there. It was unreal to have experienced a late season snow storm whilst there too - over 1.5m of snow in 24hrs, the resort completely closed and all roads blocked! But everything opened the next day and the pistes were awesome! So thank you Ski Vertigo and in particular the amazing Joe for making our family trip so memorable ❤️🤩 Sian Manning2025-04-03 We have booked with Ski Vertigo and Ski Famille many times and have never been disappointed. This time we stayed at Chalet Isobelle in Tignes Le Lavachet. The day before our flight Heathrow was closed. Thankyou to the team at Ski Vertigo we still got to our destination and had a great week in a beautiful chalet with superb food and great hosting. Vicky Justice2025-04-03 Can’t recommend enough! Chalet staff were fantastic, so friendly, warm, and food was excessive and delicious. Wonderful chalets, great location and had an amazing time. Gren Dilks2025-03-31 Booking process was straightforward and all questions addressed. Dealing with someone by phone added a lot of clarity on what to expect and to tailor the holiday more closely to my requirements. Dan Hughes2025-03-29 Fantastic team, takes the stress out of ski holiday. Claire Harrison2025-03-24 The dream location with the dream team! We just arrived home from the best weeks stay at Chalet Sapin with our party of 11. We were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived. The chalet is in a fab location, ski in ski out, right beside esf ski school & with lots of space for our teenage crew to spread out! Wonderfully comfy beds, pristine facilities, stunning food & the best hosts we could have wished for. Shout out to Aurelia, Izzy & Alice. It really was a dream week in the sun & snow. Thank you ski vertigo, we will see you next year! Simon Goodwin2025-03-21 Incredibly helpful and friendly customer services during booking process along with great value ski package. Can’t wait for January! julie smith2025-03-18 Perfect place to stay Sam F2025-03-18 The entire team at ski vertigo was amazing! Truly top notch service from a welcoming chalet staff that felt like family. We stayed at Chalet Vega over NYE and we are still talking about our trip 3 months later. Our group visited from Texas, and this was unlike any experience you can find in the states. Will be back for sure! Special shoutout to Dave, Georgia and Ben for taking great care of us. Dave even went toe-to-toe with the manager at British Airways to get us on a different flight after finding out our departure flight was delayed and we were in jeopardy of missing our connection. Absolute over the top service until the moment we left France. Can't thank you guys enough! Hope to see you again soon!
