Browse for the freshest cheese
Val d’Isere’s dairy farms, once scattered throughout the region, played a crucial role in supplying fresh milk, cheese, and other dairy products to the local communities. These farms were essential for sustaining both residents and visitors, contributing to the rich culinary heritage of the French Alps.
Ferme De l’Adroit is the last remaining dairy farm in the area, and therefore stands to be a hidden gem of the community and its history. It provides a fun and authentic experience to families, couples or groups who want to experience things to do in Val d’Isere that feature a bit of culture and heritage. The farm has three separate parts for you to visit.
The farm itself: Between 7am and 7pm, visitors are allowed to see the animals, free of charge. The farm is currently home to thirty cows, eight pigs, three horses and fifty-eight chickens. Without sounding biased, the cows are really the main attraction: typical brown cows from the Alps, they love cuddles and provide the dairy for the farm. If you arrive at 5:30pm, you can see them getting milked!
The restaurant: It would be hard work to find a more traditional Alpine experience than this one. Inside a cosy stable, there is a traditional fireplace and wooden furnishings for you to tuck into raclette, fondue, tartiflette, and meat… all freshly produced onsite. Not only is the food zero miles, but all meat products or produce is very high standard. The cows at the farm are fed with hay only from Val d’Isere, and chickens fed from leftovers from the restaurants and village residents, meaning the meat is entirely locally raised.
The shop: This farm shop truly puts others to shame. If there was something on the menu at the restaurant that pricked your tastebuds, or you have stumbled across a local delicacy that you are itching to try, you can find it in the farm shop. Nothing has travelled more than one kilometre to get there, and all stages of the food’s life (such as harvesting, maturing etc) has been done onsite. The shop has delights such as raclette, gruyere, tomme, Vacherin, blue cheese, fromage blanc, terrine, and much more. You can also purchase online here.
