Packing for a ski trip can be a bit more complex than your average holiday. Between cold temperatures, snow gear, and après-ski activities, it’s important to pack the right items to stay comfortable and prepared on the slopes. To make things easier, we’ve created the ultimate ski trip packing guide to help you organise everything you’ll need for your Ski Vertigo Adventure.

Ski Clothing for the colder months: Stay Warm and Dry

At the top of our ski trip packing guide is clothing! Your clothing will make or break your experience on the mountain. You’ll need gear that protects you from the cold and moisture while allowing freedom of movement.

  • Base Layers (Thermal Underwear): The key to staying warm is layering. Pack moisture-wicking thermal tops and bottoms to wear under your ski clothes. Merino wool or synthetic fabrics are great choices as they keep you warm without getting sweaty.
  • Mid Layers: On top of your base layers, bring a fleece or down jacket to add extra warmth. For especially cold days, pack two mid-layers for maximum comfort.
  • Ski Jacket: A waterproof and insulated ski jacket is essential. Look for a jacket with good ventilation and multiple pockets for easy storage of your ski pass, phone, and other small items.
  • Salopettes: Like your jacket, waterproof ski trousers will protect you from the snow and cold. Ensure they’re roomy enough to layer over your thermal leggings.
  • Ski Socks: Invest in high-quality, warm ski socks made from wool or a wool-blend. These should be tall enough to go above your ski boots to prevent rubbing.
  • A buff: A fleece or wool buff will help keep your neck warm and can be pulled up to cover your face if it gets windy.
  • Gloves or Mittens: Pack waterproof, insulated gloves or mittens to protect your hands from the cold. Mittens tend to keep your hands warmer than gloves, but gloves offer more dexterity.
  • Hat or Beanie: Choose a snug, warm hat or beanie that fits well under your ski helmet.
  • Goggles: Ski goggles with UV protection and anti-fog lenses are a must to shield your eyes from the sun and snow glare.

Ski Gear: Essential Equipment for the Slopes

With Ski Vertigo, you can book all your extras in advance! If you don’t plan on renting gear at the resort, make sure you pack:

  • Skis or Snowboard: Pack your skis or snowboard in a protective travel bag if you’re bringing your own. Many resorts offer rental equipment if you’d rather not lug your gear.
  • Ski Boots: Comfortable, well-fitting ski boots are key to enjoying your time on the slopes. If you own boots, pack them in a specialised bag for easy transport.
  • Ski Poles: Lightweight and adjustable poles can make a big difference, especially if you’re skiing for the first time. Rentals through us will include poles, but pack your own if you prefer.
  • Helmet: Safety first! A well-fitted ski helmet will protect your head and keep you warm. You can rent helmets through us in resort, but having your own ensures the perfect fit.
  • Backpack: A small, lightweight backpack is handy for carrying essentials like snacks, water, sun cream, and extra layers.

Après-Ski Clothing: Comfort Off the Slopes

When the day’s skiing is done, you’ll want to change into something warm and cosy to enjoy the après-ski scene. So this is an important part of our ski trip packing guide!

  • Casual Jumpers or Hoodies: Pack a few comfortable, warm fleeces or hoodies for relaxing after skiing.
  • Jeans or Comfy Trousers: Comfortable trousers or leggings are perfect for après-ski activities like dinner, walking around town, or lounging by the fire.
  • Winter Boots: After you take off your ski boots, you’ll need warm, waterproof winter boots for walking around the resort. Look for boots with good grip for icy conditions.
  • Slippers: Stay warm and cosy in the chalet and pack a pair of warm slippers to wear indoors.

Accessories and Essentials: Don’t Forget These Must-Haves

Small but important items can make all the difference on your ski trip and we’ve made sur to include them in our ski trip packing guide. Be sure to add the following in your packing list:

  • Sun cream: Yes, even in the snow, you can get sunburned! Pack a high-SPF sunscreen to protect your face from the sun’s reflection off the snow.
  • Lip Balm: The cold, dry air can wreak havoc on your lips, so keep a moisturising lip balm handy.
  • Hand Warmers: Single-use or rechargeable hand warmers can be lifesavers on cold days.
  • Sunglasses: For bright, sunny days or casual walks in the snow, a good pair of polarised sunglasses will protect your eyes.
  • Hydration Pack or Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is just as important on the slopes as it is in the summer. Pack a reusable water bottle or hydration pack.
  • Snacks: Pack energy bars, trail mix, or other portable snacks to refuel between runs.

Travel Essentials: Make the Journey Easy

Super important in the ski trip packing guide! Don’t forget these travel essentials to ensure a smooth journey.

  • Travel Documents: Be sure to pack your passport! You don’t need any other travel documents or confirmations, we’ve already got that overseas for you!
  • Travel Insurance: Skiing comes with inherent risks, so be sure to have travel insurance that covers winter sports.
  • Portable Charger: Keep your phone charged for taking photos and checking trail maps with a portable power bank.
  • Luggage Tags: Label your ski bags and luggage with your contact information… just in case!

Optional Extras: For a Little Extra Fun

These aren’t necessary, but can enhance your ski trip experience and are recommendations in our ski trip packing guide:

  • GoPro or Action Camera: Capture your skiing adventures on video with a GoPro or similar action camera.
  • Books or E-Reader: For relaxing evenings by the fire, pack a good book or an e-reader loaded with your favourite titles.
  • Portable Speaker: Bring a portable Bluetooth speaker to enjoy some tunes in your room or during après-ski.

Final Tips for Ski Trip Packing

  • Check the Weather: Before you head out, check the weather forecast for your destination to ensure you’re packing the right gear.
  • Rent What You Can: To save space and hassle, consider renting bulky items like skis, boots, and helmets at the resort.
  • Pack Smart: Use packing cubes or compression bags to keep your suitcase organised and fit everything in efficiently.

With this guide, you’ll be fully prepared for an amazing ski trip with ski Vertigo. Whether you’re hitting the slopes for the first time or you’re a seasoned skier, having the right gear will ensure you stay warm, comfortable, and ready for anything! Happy skiing!
